About & contact
I'm Narcis Miclaus, a data engineer working in Italy. By day I build the quiet plumbing that moves data from where it lives to where it can be useful. In the evenings, more and more, I study personal finance, because the long-term plan is to be a financial advisor as well as a lead data engineer. Two careers, one brain. We'll see how it goes.
This site is where I write about both. The programming section is mostly notes from the job: things I learned the hard way, tools that earned their keep, mistakes I'd make differently next time. The personal finance section is me thinking out loud about money: how it works, how to make better decisions about it, and the small calculators I build to make those decisions easier.
I write in three languages: English, Italian, and Romanian, because my life happens in all three of them. English is the default. The little EN/IT/RO switcher in the header swaps you between them on any page that has a translation.
I try to keep the tone approachable. Technical things don't have to be dry, and money things don't have to be intimidating. The goal is to make both interesting: if you leave a page understanding something you didn't understand before, that's a win.
